Farewell, August - Hello, September!
August brought some exciting - and very visible - progress at Casa Adelante 1515 South Van Ness. After months of seeing much of the building behind scaffolding, sections have started coming down along South Van Ness Avenue, giving neighbors one of the first real looks at the finished stucco and exterior façade.
The scaffolding will continue coming down in stages as crews finish work around the remaining sides of the building, so you’ll continue to see more of Casa Adelante take shape over the next several weeks.
Looking Back at August and Ahead to September
Along South Van Ness, work continues at the ground-floor storefronts and commercial spaces. With portions of the scaffolding now removed, the relationship between the storefronts, sidewalk, and the rest of the building is becoming much easier to see. There is still work happening at street level, but we’re getting much closer to what the finished building will look and feel like along the block.
Inside, crews continue working through finishes and installations across the residential floors. At this stage of construction, a lot of the work may be less dramatic from the outside, but it’s important to getting the building ready for its future residents. Crews are continuing to move floor by floor as apartments, corridors, and common spaces get closer to their finished condition.
September will also bring a few noticeable changes outside the building.
One of the biggest will be along Shotwell Street. The building’s elevators are getting closer to being available for construction use, which means the temporary exterior manlift crews have been using throughout construction can begin coming down. The manlift is currently expected to be dismantled during the second week of September.
Once it is removed, crews will be able to complete the section of exterior façade that has remained open behind it. If you’ve noticed the vertical unfinished section of the building along Shotwell Street, that’s why — the manlift has occupied that area and provided construction access to the upper floors. Its removal is another important step toward completing the building exterior.
We’re also excited to share that Precita Eyes Muralists is expected to begin mobilizing in early September for the first of four art locations planned for Casa Adelante 1515 South Van Ness. Work will begin at the Cesar Chavez and South Van Ness corner, near AutoZone.
The mural has been in coordination for some time, and September marks the beginning of bringing that work out of the planning stage and onto the building itself. Neighbors should start seeing activity in that area first, followed by the artwork beginning to take shape over the weeks ahead. We’re excited to see this piece become part of the building and the surrounding neighborhood.
There is still plenty happening as we move through the final stretch of construction, but August gave us one of the clearest signs of progress yet: more of the finished Casa Adelante 1515 South Van Ness is finally becoming visible.
As we head into September, we’ll continue keeping neighbors updated as the remaining scaffolding comes down, the mural gets underway, and work progresses throughout the building.
