Construction Update #5 - August 1, 2025
Hello Neighbors,
Casa Adelante – 1515 South Van Ness reached a key project milestone last Saturday with the first of our two mat slab concrete pours. Two-thirds of the site’s foundation was poured with nearly 3,200 cubic yards of concrete installed – that’s more than enough to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
Work has already begun to prepare for the second concrete pour tomorrow, Saturday, August 2nd. We appreciate our neighborhood’s patience as we continue our steady progress during these concrete pours and throughout construction.
Update for August 1st
Throughout next week, we will be erecting formwork for the first phase of concrete columns and walls on Level 1 and then placing that concrete in the forms.
In the following week, we will be erecting the formwork for the first phase of shotcrete walls on Level 1 and then placing the shotcrete onto the forms. Shotcrete is a construction method where concrete is pneumatically projected, or sprayed, onto a surface. The phasing of Level 1 concrete and shotcrete columns/walls will continue over the next several weeks.
Fast Fact: You might have been hearing occasionally a horn being blasted during construction and wondered what its purpose is for. That horn is for our tower crane when it’s moving materials around the site. When materials are picked up, the horn is blasted so that the entire site can be aware that the tower crane is in use and that there might be materials swinging above everyone’s heads. This is a safety precaution and best practice to ensure that everyone on the site is mindful of the tower crane while in use.
Public Art Opportunity
Calling all artists! MEDA and CCDC are pleased to share that the Public Art Request for Proposal (RFP) is available for prospective artist, or artists, to design and to install permanent artwork on multiple exterior walls and columns at 1515 South Van Ness.
